Wednesday, October 18 (A Day)

 

 

  • We will be on a half day schedule Thursday due to conferences. There will be NO SCHOOL Friday, October 20th.

 

  • Congratulations to everyone on their efforts with the food drive! Almost 6,000 cans of food is going to feed a lot of people! The effort put into the Canstruction itself was awesome and the designs were original and very well executed.

 

  • Parent/Teacher Conferences are Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the gym.

 

  • Tomorrow is jeans & spirit shirt day.

Tuesday, October 17 (B Day)

 

  • There will be a Drama Club meeting after school today in Wildcat Hall. All students who are working on crews or are interested in working on crews for next week’s presentation of “Anatomy of Gray” should attend this meeting.

 

  • We will be on a half day schedule Wednesday and Thursday due to conferences. There will be NO SCHOOL Friday, October 20th.

 

  • Neither Scholars Bowl nor Chess will meet after school Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Regular meetings will resume next week.

 

  • Congratulations to the Golf team on their state championship yesterday. Caroline Setter is the 4A State Champion shooting a 76 and besting the field by 4 strokes. Katye Vausbinder was 7, Sammy Blenden was 9th, Maeve McInerney was 16th, Sarah Carson was 17, and Sydney Blenden was 58th. Great Job Ladies!

 

  • Lunch Menu has changed for today. Main Line is potato bar, Salad Line is a chicken sandwich.

Monday, October 16 (A Day)

  • Thanks to the time and talent of assistant coach John Samqua and the hard work and dedication of the Hayden debate squad, we bested 17 high schools including Seaman, Topeka High, Topeka West, Washburn Rural, and Shawnee Heights, to finish first overall at this weekend’s open debate tournament at Silver Lake High School. Besides bringing home a first place team plaque, everyone who entered the tournament came home with medals for the following places: Brett Funk and Alexa Sheer finished 3rd, Isabelle Pryor and Jack Dunshee finished 4th, and Rachel Grollmes and Charlie Roeder finished 5th! Outstanding work by all!

Friday, October 13 (B Day)

  • Congratulations to Madelin Gates for being selected to the Kansas FBLA Active Membership Advisory Council!  One of her responsibilities will be to administer the district voting in January at the district conference.  Also, congrats to Madelin for earning her “Future” level award in FBLA!  She receives a lapel pin and certificate.

  • Have you ever dreamed of studying Spanish abroad?  This is your chance to immerse yourself in the language and culture for two weeks in Salamanca, Spain with Mrs. Head. Please plan on attending an informational meeting with your parents tomorrow after Parent Teacher Conferences at 7:45 pm in the Hayden Cafeteria.  Please contact Mrs. Head with any questions.  Hope to see you there.

This is on the honors system. Please remember that all cans donated will be helping feed the vulnerable and poor of Topeka. Cans will be collected by House Captains in the morning.

  • Have you ever dreamed of studying Spanish abroad?  This is your chance to immerse yourself in the language and culture for two weeks in Salamanca, Spain with Mrs. Head. Please plan on attending an informational meeting with your parents October 18th after Parent Teacher Conferences at 7:45 pm in the Hayden Cafeteria.  Please contact Mrs. Head with any questions.  Hope to see you there.

Tuesday, October 10 (A Day)

 

  • This is the last day for juniors and sophomores to sign up for the PSAT test on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.  There are a few openings if you would like to take the test to see if you qualify to become a National Merit Scholar or a commended National Merit scholar.  You need to sign up with Mrs. Blanchette along with a fee of $20.00.  Sophomores, you are able to take the test but it will only be a practice test for when you take it as a junior..  If you have signed up for the test tomorrow please bring 2 number 2 pencils and a calculator.  Report to the gym instead of going to your first hour class.

 

  • On October 11th ALL freshman students will be taking the PreACT.  The PreACT simulates the ACT testing experience on all four ACT test subjects:  English, Math, Reading, and Science.  The results predict future success on the ACT test, and provide both current achievement and projected future ACT test scores on the 1-36 ACT score scale.  

 

  • After the morning announcements on October 11th, all freshman students will be dismissed to the Bingo Room to test for the PreACT.  Questions regarding this test can be sent to Jesica Farmer-Walter.

 

  • Hey Rowdy Bunch, tonight is Senior night for our Volleyball Senior Ladies.  Please come out and celebrate their accomplishments, as well as root them on as the play Manhattan, Lawrence, and Rural.

 

  • Hayden girls golf won 4A Regional at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course. Caroline Setter was overall champion with an 85, Katye Vausbinder was 2nd with an 87, Samantha Blenden was 9th overall, Maeve McInerney Sydney Blenden Sarah Carson and Haley Karolevitz rounded out the team.

Monday, October 9 (B Day)

  • Congratulations to Hayden debate squad members Isabelle Pryor, Jack Dunshee, Rachel Grollmes, Charlie Roeder, Gwyn Arnold, Ava Lemon, Nick Quaney, Marcel Pryor, Alejandro Calderon and Zach Purcell for an awesome outing at the Seaman High School Tournament this past weekend. The 3 teams of  Pryor/Dunshee, Grollmes/Roeder, and Quaney/Pryor finished with 4-1 records. Pryor/Dunshee finished 2nd and Grollmes/Roeder finished 8th in the Open division, while Quaney/Pryor finished 4th in the Novice division. Overall our dedicated debaters finished with a combined 16-9 record for an outstanding overall 3rd place trophy among all high schools competing. Great job!

 

  • Congrats to the JV volleyball team on winning a centennial league title over the weekend. The girls went undefeated on the day, earning a convincing win over Manhattan in the finals 25-14, 25-15. Great job!

 

  • Congrats to the Hayden Varsity Tennis Team who placed 2nd at Regionals this weekend. A special Congrats to Brooklyn Hunter who won her 3rd straight Regional Championship, and to Julia Hammes and Sara Comstock who placed 3rd in #1 doubles. GREAT JOB LADIES!
